Local

Last summer I was enjoying my ice-cream in a hot summer day in Punavuori district. I sat on my longboard in the corner of two big streets and just let people pass me by. Suddenly someone came to me and asked if I was a local in Helsinki. He was from London and had started this art project about locals and tourists in various cities around the world. Maybe I'd be interested to take part? Hell yes!

Pics by me in Local vs Tourist

I was handed a disposable camera, an envelope with an address and enough stamps to London. The assignment was to take pictures of "my Helsinki". Streets, people, what ever I wanted. And once the camera was full, just return it to him via post.

Today I got an email from Pedro, the guy who gave me the camera. The site was up and running! This far they have pictures from Helsinki and Mexico City from both locals and tourist. It's kind of an interesting detail, that most cameras sent back are from tourists. I wonder where all the locals have forgotten their cameras...?

Check the Local vs Tourist -site

Watching those pictures make me miss summer. It's hot days and nights and the endless feeling of peace and happiness. Have a lovely weekend everybody!

Announcement my darlings

I know it's been superslow in here for a long time. I have a new blog project going on and I have been mainly focusing on that when it comes to blogs.
This doesn't mean that Sushirobot will be deleted, but at least for the while I'm going to concentrate on the new Rainbow Dash -blog where I'm sharing my useless thoughts together with my best friend. You are all super duper warmly welcome to follow us there, but I have to warn all my international followers, that Rainbow Dash is only written in Finnish.

The reason I'm keeping a bit quiet here, is that the topics written in Rainbow Dash are often quite similar to what you guys have used to read from Sushirobot. And right now I have no time or patience to post same posts both in Finnish and English to two different blogs. I'm really sorry for that.

But anyways, darlings...
Welcome to RAINBOW DASH, the place where all the sweet stuff is going on!

Bike love

So yes, like some of you might have guessed, that cardboardbox in my last post hid my brand new Rainbow Bike in it. And I'm going to keep it hidden from you guys for a while still. Why, since you've all seen the pic of it earlier this month? Well, it wouldn't really be my bike, unless I did some customising to it!

Few parts were missing from the package and I have only started my DIYs last night, so it will take some time untill I'm satisfied. But here's something that has inspired me a lot while planning my Rainbow's final look.

The night of the living dead

Last night was amazing! I learned the whole 6 minute long dance and danced it with 89 other zombies in the railwaystation of Helsinki. The fact that makes me the most proud is, that I have zero, I repeat ZERO, dancing experience nor skills and despite that I managed to learn the dance and take part to this amazing event.
So ladies and gentlemen, Thrill The World 2009, Helsinki Finland!!!

Finally!!!

I'd like to welcome everybody to the renewed BonBone on Saturday (11:00-16:00) or Sunday (12:00-17:00), this upcoming weekend!

Everything will be new and it's all a consequence of combining the two of Helsinki's first dog boutiques BonBone and Le Petit Chien.

We have painted, organized, sweated very unladylikely, sewed, cleaned, unpacked, packed, ordered, panicked, planned, gotten slightly delusional cause of lack of sleep, glued, sawed, sanded,.. the list just goes on and on, but all was done to achieve what we can proudly represent on this Saturday.

New products, renewed and expanded shop, webshop and lots of other fun stuff, all in the same address in Ullanlinna, Helsinki.

Come and check out the autumn's hottest trends in dog world!

Love,
Suski

Renovating

During the first parts of this year, I've mentioned some upcoming changes in my life. I don't know if someone has noticed but I have removed the part "girlfriend" from the About me -section on the upper right corner.
On April Fool's day I got the keys to my new apartment, located in Kallio, Helsinki. It's a compact little home in a peaceful part on the quite colourful Kallio. 22,5 square meters for me, Gekko and Proper. Iines will be staying with J, she will be much happier as an only dog so there's no point for me to take her with me and keep her stressed about the youngsters and vice versa.

It wasn't an easy thing to find an apartment in Southern parts of Helsinki with my budget and demands. I don't need lots of space, but I want to live in nice surroundings and well.. it seems that even a shower is something you need to pay extra! One girl was amazed by the rent I pay and told that in North-Finland where she lives you could get three rooms + kitchen with that amount!
My little home isn't in very good shape, but I was convinced that I wanted this apartment because it had painted white wooden floors, big window and simple and very basic white bathroom (and not some freak-ish 70's brown patterns or something..). With a little renovation (in kitchen, hello! Awful!), I can make it a lovely place to live in.

Time for the piccies then, here's what my apartment looked before I did anything in there.

Livingroom/only room of the apartment. The big window is my favorite part now. Lots of room to pile colour-organized books and some small and cute decore thingies.
Other end of the same room. You can see the "hall" from the doorway. Bathroom is on the left, behind the kitchen. Table, chair and boxes belong to the landlord, I'll dump them to the attic as soon as I get the key.
My small kitchen. My god how terrible! It won't be staying like that, that's for sure.
Bathroom. Cheaply done, but at least it's white. Not going to renovate there much/at all.
Here's some pics about the middle phase where I'd already brought some stuff in there, but hadn't renovated anything yet.
I try to move during Easter. There is still lots to do in the apartment, but nothing that big that I couldn't live in there already. Maybe I'll take some pics before the final "after" pictures.

Quick update

It's almost the end of February and my challenge. This week hasn't gone as planned and I have had serious difficulties waking up in the mornings. Apparently the 8:00 is too much for me, so I plan to continue my challenge, go back a bit and set the 8:30 to my new waking up time. Maybe use that for few weeks and then try the 8:00 again and hope for better (and permanent!!) result.

It's a lovely and sunny day today, so I'm keeping this short and go and try to be bit more productive than I've been in last couple of days.
I'll post more later this week!

Flu

For the last week I have stayed home sick and tried to get rid of the most aggressive flu I have had since childhood. I had to close my shop because of that and spend pretty much all my time sleeping or just laying on the bed.
I'm still not well, but at least I got rid of the fever.

Dogs felt tired also. The spring sun made Iines yawn.
On Wednesday when coming home from health center I stopped by to our local flea market to see if there was anything to cheer me up. And there was! 3 pretty glass jars I immediately had to take with me.
Also got mail from ASOS... Black wet-look leggings and Blondie necklace!!!

And what comes to my February challenge, I have managed to stay in schedule despite of being sick, out of my daily rythm and also very tired all the time. Yay me!!

Transformation Challenge 2009

There will be lots of changes in my life coming this year so when I saw the iCiNG Transformation Challenge 2009, I decided I'll take part by improving my life with some smaller things. The challenge is for the whole February and my challenge is to change my daily routine.

Untill now, my routine has been this:
-Alarm clock rings 9:00am
-Snoozing about 1 h
-Get up 10:00
-Get dressed in hurry, add some make up (or take make-up bag with me at work and do the make-up there), do my hair or put a hat on
-Take 2 out of 3 dogs out for a quick pee
-Feed those 2
-Take the one, that hasn't been out yet with you to work
-Try to make it to the bus/tram stop before you are late
-Work from 11:00 am to 7:00pm
-Go home
(-Take 2 dogs out if they haven't been out yet)
-Watch TV or waist life in front of computer
-Eat
-Shower
-Take dogs out
-Go to sleep around midnight
So not very intresting life but where to get some extra hours? After work I'm tired and I need that do-nothing-time in front on TV also.

My only option to change this is to wake up earlier in the morning. I don't necessarily NEED to do anything in the morning, but at least I could enjoy some lazy morning breakfast (includes to the second part of my Transformation Challenge), maybe do some hooping or long walk with a dog / dogs.

Transformation Challenge 2009 for me is:
1. Wake up earlier to enjoy the day
2. Eat healthier and don't be like a pig when it comes to eating (I eat WAY TOO MUCH!)But how can I accomplis these goals? For many people these are very simple tasks, but for me they aren't. I'm super sleepy and cranky in the mornings and I need lots of sleep. I also have huge sweet tooth and big cravings for yummy salty foods. I like healthy food, but the time I'm hungry I can only think about some unhealthy, high energy fatty foods.

This is what I have planned:
At first my goal for the first week is to wake up at 9:00 o'clock. I go to sleep at 10:00 pm or at latest 11:00 pm. I start my morning with some light but healthy breakfast so I don't upset my body which isn't used to food in the mornings. That will propably be some joghurt, juice, porige, fruit or sandwitch. I take the mornings easy and try to be in time at work.

After one week I try to wake up more early 8:30 or 8:00 depending on how difficult the first week was. And depending on the time I have then, I add the morning hooping to my schedule, or longer walk with one or two dogs.

At work I try to eat something small in every 2 hours, so that I don't even get to the point where I could eat everything that is brought in front of me. And no HUGE meals at home in the evening, only some small snacks like sandwitch, fruit, veggies and dip,.. I'm not going to avoid fat, sugar or other unhealthy things neuroticly, my point is to get me eating regularily so that I won't be so ridiculously hungry all the time.

So this is my challenge for the next month. I will report in here how it goes, wish me luck!

Project Office, part 2

Last night I had an inspiration to start working on with our office project. Last week we bought a PS cabinet from Ikea to store my bags and backpacks. Before they were just shoved inside the cupboard and it didn't look very nice... This far I made it before I gave up with that damn iMac. I'm not used to Macs so I have absolutely no idea of how they work. My biggest achievement last night was to create own accounts for me and bf. With internet.. hopeless.. I have no idea what I do wrong or have I possibly forgotten to install something or am I missing some gadget. Well, hopefully I get some help soon. The office itself is also unfinnished. I want to cover up all the junk up in the highest shelf and I need to hide all the electric cords and do some other decoration in there until I'm satisfyed. But I like the PS cabinet in there, it's so sturdy that dogs won't break it if they go in there to sniff around.
But my favorite in there isn't the PS, but my new light series from Sirius. It's like this, but pale pink and very cute and feminine.
Hope I'm soon able to post the final before and after pics!

Crisis

I have a food crisis. As you might have guessed after my latest post, I have a sweet tooth that is very much alive and kicking. I also would like to change my eating habits to a bit more healthier and maybe loose few kilos too. But my sweet tooth is causing that plan some serious problems since after all, I have no self-discipline. I don't have meal times and I usually start craving foods when I'm seriously hungry. And by then.. I don't care about the healthy foods I just eat what ever is easily on hand and sounds like a big meal. At work that mostly means macaroni and some sauce or noodles or garlic bread.

I'm very impulsive eater and I can't live by any planned menu because if I have planned that on Tuesday I'll eat feta salad I might not feel like eating that when Tuesday arrives and then I get grumpy because of the lack of self-discipline and then I just go and eat huge bowl of macaroni. See the pattern?

So now I try to slowly change the way I eat. I have started to eat breakfast and hope it keeps me more happy and out of all the cravings at least for a while. I still have to improve the breakfast to more healthier way but at least now I'm eating one!

Bread with bit of butter and fresh basil and tomato slices. Turkish youghurt with honey and a glass of home made apple juice.
My vegetarian month ends today and on Saturday I start my vegan week. Eating more veggies is good, but I have a bad habit of adding lots of cream and butter and sugar with them and in general just eating way too big meals at a time. I will report later how my eat-healthier project is going on.

They like it raw - what about me?

Every now and then I've found myself browsing through raw food sites. It's something that seems to interest me for some reason. Today I found myself from Heathy's blog Adventures of Raw Goddes Heathy drooling over raw cupcakes and all the other yummy looking delicacies. They look and sound so good so I think I'll have to try some of the things I have found from her blog and from We like it raw -website.

I know that now the people who know me laugh their asses off since they all know that I lack all the self discipline in the world and also am a huge fan of good (and unhealthy) food.. I can also see my one friend who is in med school choking on her tea while reading this and propably she'll give me a lecture about good nourishment and so on. But I don't care, I think this sounds fun!
You have to admit that these pics look good:

This month is my vegetarian month and I have left all meats out of my diet for one month. I do eat dairy products and eggs now. On October we have an animal week in Finland so that week I'll try how it feels to eat only vegan food and maybe I'll make one week for raw food only to see how it goes. These food projects are fun!

Project Office, part 1

Yesterday arrived our new iMac. It has 24" screen so some organizing is needed to find a good place for it. Kithen table and livingroom table are out of question because of Gekko. He would smash it in minutes.

So it was time to start re-thinking our old plan to make an office in to those cupboards we bought years ago from IKEA. Back then we chose shelves that would imitate a office table, but in the end, the cupboard ended up as a storage and our laptop lives on the sofa.

I'll post the "before" pictures here now and lets see how long it takes us to turn that storage hell to a home office.... It's the first cupboard on the left, rest are for our clothes and other random stuff.
